How to delete a Google review you left on a computer

Make sure you are signed in to the same Google account you used to write the review. Then:

1. Open Google Maps in your browser.
2. In the top left, click Menu (the three lines).
3. Click Your contributions, then Reviews.
4. Next to the review you want to delete, click More (the three dots).
5. Select Delete review and follow the on-screen steps to confirm.

Google's help page says a review "shows up in Google Maps until you take it down", so it stays up until you delete it yourself or Google removes it for breaking its rules.

How to delete a Google review on iPhone or Android

Google gives the same steps for the Google Maps app on iPhone, iPad and Android:

1. Open the Google Maps app.
2. Tap Contribute, then View your profile.
3. Scroll and tap See all reviews.
4. Next to the review you want to delete, tap More (the three dots).
5. Select Delete review and follow the on-screen steps.

It does not matter which device you posted from. The review belongs to your Google account, so you can delete it from any phone or computer signed in to that account.

How to edit a Google review instead

If the business sorted the problem out, or you wrote something in the heat of the moment, editing may suit you better than deleting. Your review stays up with the new text, rating or photos.

1. Find the review using the computer or phone steps above.
2. Click or tap More, then Edit review.
3. Change the text, the star rating or the photos.
4. Follow the on-screen steps to save your changes.

Good reasons to edit rather than delete: the business fixed the problem and you want to say so, you named a member of staff or added personal details you would rather take out, or your rating no longer reflects the whole experience.

If you cannot find your review

You are signed in to a different account

Reviews are tied to the account that wrote them. Google does not allow anonymous reviews, and each one shows the name on that account's About me page. If the review is not under Your contributions, switch to your other Google accounts and check again.

Google removed it

Google moderates reviews and removes those that break its content policy, such as spam or inappropriate content. It says: "We don't reinstate reviews that were removed for policy violations." If a review has gone and you did not delete it, this is one possible reason.

You want to delete your whole Google account

Closing your account is not the way to remove one review. Google's account help says you will "lose all the data and content in that account", but it does not spell out what happens to Maps reviews. Delete the review first using the steps above, then close the account if you still want to.

When a business asks you to remove a review

A business can ask. Whether you delete, edit or leave your review is your decision, and an honest review of a real experience is allowed to stay up.

What a business must not do is offer you something for it. Google's policy prohibits offering "incentives, such as payment, discounts, free goods and/or services, in exchange for posting any review or revision or removal of a negative review." In the UK, the CMA's guidance on the DMCC Act 2024 gives "offering them a refund and/or a gift card if they change their review" as an example of commissioning a fake review, which is now a banned practice. If the business fixes the problem with no strings attached and you want to update your review to say so, that is fine. If it makes a refund depend on removing the review, or threatens you, you do not have to agree. The CMA lists "threats of harm or legal action" among the ways a business must not interfere with negative reviews.

If you own the business the review is about

You cannot delete a review someone else wrote, even on your own Business Profile. Google's help page says you cannot "directly delete someone else's review. Instead, you can request that Google remove the review by reporting it." Google removes reviews that break its policies, such as fake reviews, reviews from competitors or former staff, harassment and personal information. It keeps honest ones, however much they sting.
